Members of farmer groups from Ward No. 3 to 7 of Masta Rural Municipality are actively involved in mushroom farming. After receiving training under the ‘Improved Food Security, Sustainable Livelihoods, and Empowerment of Women Project’ conducted in collaboration with Sahara Nepal Bajhang and Swallows of Finland, the farmers have been actively cultivating mushrooms.
Under the organization of this project, 1–day training on mushroom farming technology was conducted for farmers of Masta Rural Municipality at three locations. The training provided important information on basic mushroom farming technology, seed production, management, disease and pest control, and market promotion.
Most of the farmers who participated in the training showed special interest in mushroom farming and are practically implementing the learned technologies. Farmers have started mushroom farming in groups and individually, which will not only make them self-reliant but also contribute to food security. In addition, mushroom farming is believed to create alternative income opportunities at the local level.
According to a representative from Sahara Nepal, “Mushroom farming is an easy but effective source of income for farmers. It is expected that the farmers will become self-reliant by practically applying the skills learned from this training.”
Judging by the enthusiastic participation and commitment of local farmers, mushroom farming is believed to be established as a sustainable agricultural system in Mashta Rural Municipality.
मष्टा गाउँपालिका वडा नं. ३ देखि ७ सम्मका कृषक समूहका सदस्यहरू च्याउँखेतीमा सक्रिय रूपमा संलग्न छन्। साहारा नेपाल बझाङ र स्वालोज अफ फिनल्यान्डको सहकार्यमा सञ्चालित ‘खाद्य सुरक्षा सुधार, दिगो जीविकोपार्जन, र महिला सशक्तीकरण परियोजना’ अन्तर्गत प्राप्त तालिम पश्चात कृषकहरूले धमाधम च्याउँखेती गर्दै आएका छन्।
यस परियोजनाको आयोजनामा मष्टा गाउँपालिकाका कृषकहरूका लागि च्याउँखेती प्रविधि सम्बन्धी १-१ दिने तालिम तीनवटा स्थानमा सञ्चालन गरिएको थियो। तालिममा च्याउँखेतीको आधारभूत प्रविधि, बीउ उत्पादन, व्यवस्थापन, रोग तथा किरा नियन्त्रण, र बजार प्रवर्द्धन सम्बन्धी महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी प्रदान गरिएको थियो।
तालिमका सहभागी अधिकांश कृषकहरूले च्याउँखेती प्रति विशेष चासो देखाउँदै सिकेका प्रविधिहरूलाई व्यवहारिक रूपमा लागू गर्दै आएका छन्। कृषकहरूले समूहगत तथा व्यक्तिगत रूपमा च्याउँखेती सुरु गरेका छन्, जसले उनीहरूलाई आत्मनिर्भर बनाउने मात्र नभई खाद्य सुरक्षामा पनि योगदान पुर्याउनेछ। साथै, च्याउँखेतीले स्थानीय स्तरमा वैकल्पिक आयआर्जनको अवसर सिर्जना गर्ने विश्वास गरिएको छ।
साहारा नेपालका प्रतिनिधि अनुसार, “च्याउँखेती कृषकहरूका लागि सहज तर प्रभावकारी आम्दानीको माध्यम हो। यस तालिमबाट कृषकहरूले सिकेका सीपहरू व्यवहारिक रूपमा उपयोग गर्दै आत्मनिर्भर बन्ने अपेक्षा गरिएको छ।”
स्थानीय कृषकहरूको उत्साहपूर्ण सहभागिता र प्रतिबद्धता हेर्दा, मष्टा गाउँपालिकामा च्याउँखेती दिगो कृषि प्रणालीको रूपमा स्थापित हुने विश्वास गरिएको छ।
