General Objective: The general objectives of the proposed project is to aware the local communities on the sustainable management of the pasturelands and prepare a sustainable management and utilization plan of the Yarsagumba through awareness of stakeholders for improving livelihoods of mountain communities.

Specific Objectives:

  1. To develop and demonstrate sustainable practices for management and utilization of pastureland, and management and collection of Yarsagumba;
  2. To strengthen capacity of Yarsagumba collectors, local government and volunteers for better regulation of Yarsagumba collection measures; and
  3. To create awareness and promote conservation and sustainable utilization of rangeland biodiversity and environmentally-friendly behaviors in the areas, mainly reducing waste dumping of bottles, plastic etc. by the collectors.

Project Result/Outcome

  1. Formulated and implemented functional mechanisms and code of conduct/guideline for sustainable management of pasture land and Yarsagumba within Saipal municipality;
  2. Capacitated use of sustainable harvesting and management practices by communities for better regeneration/growth of Yarsagumba;
  3. Reduced waste dumping of glass, alcohol bottle, plastic and non-renewable materials in the pasturelands and
  4. Improved income generation of vulnerable communities relying on pastureland and Yarsagumba.
